Scrooge! - The Musical

Book, Music and Lyrics by Leslie Bricusse, Directed by Mandy AinsworthIn this timeless musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, miserly Ebenezer Scrooge undergoes a profound experience of redemption over the course of a Christmas Eve night, after being visited by the ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley and the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.

In her directing debut, Mandy Ainsworth, also known for running our popular Theatre School for children, states, “following our recent successes of bringing our Youth Theatre and Adult Theatre together in productions, for the very first time, this production also brings in some of our Theatre School children into the fold. I am thoroughly enjoying seeing these children develop in both skills and confidence, putting into practice what they have learnt in our Theatre School sessions, and helping to bring this story to life.

The story opens on Christmas Eve, 1860, in Cheapside, London, where the chill air is alive with the sound of carols coming from the churches. Ebenezer Scrooge, however, thinks nothing of Christmas. He is the surviving partner of Scrooge and Marley, private merchant bankers and moneylenders. His clerk, Bob Cratchit, overworked and underpaid, has a hard time asking for time off, with pay, for Christmas. Ebenezer does not like this time of year and turns down invitations to a family gathering from his nephew, Harry, and continues to treat local folk with disdain.

This amateur production of SCROOGE! is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk
